Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. Feminist Frequency is a channel that hosts videos, comments and an analysis of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency, a website dedicated to education, which examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives, is her brainchild. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. Aiming to break down the stereotypes associated with women in pop culture, she seeks to bring attention to the targeted harassment of women and other marginalized classes of the Internet world. Sarkeesian, who has an MA in the field of Social and Political Thinking at York University, is a well-known public speaking. She has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. From an early age she was intrigued by the issue of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. When she was still in school, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. This ambitious woman planned to start an internet-based series that examined the gender roles in games and was then the victim of a harassment campaign online. Her determination was not slowed by the assault, in fact it only reinforced her determination to be an expert on media and feminism. Her notable contributions to the field of feminists are recognized with numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media journalist. She also serves as the director and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
