Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football with volunteering for the community. His first family is that his father was the youngest of the nine children raised in Eufala through Lucious Selmon. A second reason was his father was the only of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey was an All-Star for the whole 1973 season. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was the top lineman for all of the nation. For the three seasons that Roy was on the field, Oklahoma won two National Championships. A third scholarship saw him named an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned a degree as a teacher. Fourth-year service in the college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. Also, he began an entrepreneurial career. By 1988 he had become an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked in these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of Ten of America's top young men. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He was captain of his college team in the year 1975. In 1993, he was appointed the athletic director's assistant at the University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993 by The GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as in the Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented its Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
